Fans of the highest rated show on television, "The Walking Dead," will be delighted to know that their favorite horror series has officially been renewed by AMC for Season 7, which will premiere next year around this time.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the network announced in a statement that the show has just been picked up for its seventh-season run, following a storm of online activity in regards to last Sunday's episode that appeared to kill off one of their main characters.

"Thank goodness someone had a Magic 8-Ball with them in our many long internal meetings about these renewals. When, on the third shake, 'without a doubt' filled the murky blue screen, we knew we had to proceed with new seasons of 'The Walking Dead' and 'Talking Dead,'" AMC President Charlie Collier comically wrote in the statement.

Even though the numbers for the show have been slightly down from the numbers of last season, the show still remains the No. 1 on television for adults in the key 18 - 49 demographic.

Last Sunday, the show attracted a gigantic 18.2 million viewers, 12 million of which were from the key demographic. With numbers like those, it's a wonder the network didn't announce the renewal earlier.

In regards to the show and its content, fans were horrified last Sunday when it appeared that fan favorite Glenn had succumbed to the onslaught of a Walker herd. Although the details of his fate have been widely debated on social media, the scene strongly suggested that the character had been killed.

But according to certain camera angles and a few other details, there is still a tiny amount of hope for Glenn. The next episode might not reveal whether he lived or died given that the promo seems to suggest it is only about Morgan.

Fans will just have to wait to see.
