Former Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete Happy Mexico Rejoins Pageant
Beauty queen and actress Ximena Navarrete recently revealed she supports Mexico's decision to participate in this year's Miss Universe competition.
According to Radio Fórmula, the model is glad that Mexico, for which she won the crown in the 2010 Miss Universe competition, will be part of the yearly beauty pageant.
"The truth is that it would be really sad to take away the opportunity from a beautiful girl who has prepared a lot to represent Mexico and do the best that she can," Navarrete said. "How great that she will go to Miss Universe. It gives me a lot of pleasure."
The model made headlines earlier this year when she released a statement showing support for Donald Trump after his controversial comments about Mexican immigrants. She continues to stand by her statement.
"I have a great relationship with the organizers because they treated me really well. That doesn't mean that I agree with the comments [made by Trump] about Mexicans," she added.
Navarrete also revealed that she is happy that Lupita Jones, the director of Nuestra Belleza Mexico, who in June announced that she would be withdrawing Mexico from the competition due to Trump's racist comments, agreed to send Wendolly Esparza Delgadillo to the world pageant.
Up next for the Mexican beauty is her film debut. After dabbling in acting with a role in the telenovela "La Tempestad" with William Levy, with whom she was rumored to have a romantic relationship off-screen, Navarrete is finishing work on her first film, called "180 Costuras."
The actress explained that the actors on the film all had great chemistry and described working on the film as "a great experience."
The film is set to premiere early in 2016. It is a story about baseball and family, based on the real life accomplishments of the International Little League of Baseball team that won the championship in 1997, reported Milenio.
