At Paris Games Week, developers revealed that multiplayer for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End would involve micro-transactions in the form of purchasable Naughty Dog Points.

The multiplayer mode looks to be incorporating a lot of fresh new ideas, ranging from supernatural power-ups known as "Mysticals," to the ability to summon allies for assistance. But these new features will come with a price, literally.

Community strategist Arne Meyer elaborated on the system during a panel at PAX Australia, DualShockers reports.

"We made a brief mentions of Naughty Dog Points. We talked about it last week at Paris Games Week, and I think some of the reports that came out were a little inaccurate with what we're trying to do, but the idea is that there are some things in the game that you can get with Naughty Dog Points, and when you start playing Uncharted 4's multiplayer you actually get a little bit of this currency so you can try out and see how it works," Meyer said.

Letting players start off with some currency seems like a big plus, although Meyer went on to say that gamers would not be able to receive Naughty Dog Points through gameplay.

However, Meyer also explained that nothing would be exclusive through purchase. She said everything avaliable through the game's virtual currency can also be unlocked by other methods. It's likely that the micro-transactions are only for those who would rather pay up to avoid grinding.

While Naughty Dog isn't looking at the micro-transactions as a new revenue stream, the money will hopefully help support the game's multiplayer for years to come.

"If you look at Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3, those two multiplayer games still exist right now, we still have a multiplayer community that's playing with it, and it's really quite some time. We want to be able to do that with Uncharted 4 as well, to be able to support the multiplayer game for it," Meyer added.
