'El Señor de los Cielos' Cast News: Rafael Amaya Treated For Overdose
Rafael Amaya, the star of Telumundo's popular series "El Señor de los Cielos," was rushed to the hospital on Oct. 27 for a drug overdose.
According to TVyNovelas, the actor was rushed to the intensive care unit at a hospital in Mexico at 4 a.m. for tachycardia symptoms, which includes a fast heart rate, and from possible drug intoxication.
The actor, who plays a drug lord in "El Señor de los Cielos," was treated in a private and restricted area of the hospital but was reportedly responsive later in the day.
When asked about Amaya's condition, Telemundo refused to discuss the actor's personal life, reported People En Español.
"We don't make comments about rumors about the personal life of our employees or actors. After being absent last week we are happy to know that Rafael is fine and has taken a well deserved vacation after 11 uninterrupted months of filming," Telemundo said in a statement.
Recent reports suggest that Amaya has not been able to handle the pressures of fame and has even let success get to his head.
According to Latin Times, Amaya has been acting out recently, treating staff on the show rudely and behaving unprofessionally. The 38-year-old star was reportedly even fined about $1,800 for being late to his callings.
However, Telemundo's statement reveals otherwise and instead praises the actor's contributions to the successful drama, which was recently renewed for Season 4.
"The production of the fourth season of 'El Señor de los Cielos' is almost done and is moving forward as it was originally scheduled. This series has been a success and in part we owe it to the work and dedication of Rafael. He is a great professional and a loved member of the Telmundo family," read the statement.
On Thursday Oct. 29, the actor hinted at his struggling personal life and near-death experience on Twitter with a single but effective tweet: "Coming back from the dead."
