Adele’s ‘Hello’ Debuts at No 1 With One Million Downloads
Adele has made history with her new track "Hello," as the powerful ballad debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with over one million downloads this week.
The 27-year-old singer has broken the record for most downloads within a week, according to Forbes. Flo Rida previously set the record in 2009 with his No. 1 hit "Right Round," which sold just under 650,000 copies.
Adele has also bumped The Weeknd's "The Hills" into the No. 4 spot, after it spent six weeks in the top spot on the chart. Justin Bieber holds down the No. 2 spot with "Sorry" and Drake lands in the No. 3 position with "Hotline Bling."
"Hello" is the lead single from Adele's upcoming album "25." The singer released the music video for the song on Friday, Oct. 27, and after just one day, the video garnered 27.7 million views.
In the music video for "Hello," the singer travels to a house out in the country and desperately tries to contact her ex-boyfriend, played by Mack Wilds, despite his attempts to avoid her call.
Adele has several forthcoming appearances to promote her new album, including her stint as a musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" on Nov. 21, when Matthew McConaughey will serve as host.
The singer will also be performing in her own one-hour NBC concert special, "Adele Live in New York City," at Radio City Music Hall, which will then air on Monday, Dec. 14.
On Monday Adele also taped her special with Graham Norton called "Adele at the BBC," however, no air date has been announced just yet.
Adele's third studio album, "25," will be released on Friday, Nov. 20. This will be the follow-up album to her Grammy-winning second studio album "21."
