The Yale University chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) has been accused of turning away students of color away from their off-campus Halloween party in New Haven, Connecticut, last Friday.

Several students say that a frat member rejected black students who were standing on a line to enter the party, and instead announced that he would be admitting "white girls only," reports the Washington Post. Witnesses say the SAE member also screened the line to let in only blonde women, while other students say they heard the frat member chanting, "White girls only."

On Saturday, a Yale student named Neema Githere posted a Facebook message about her experiences waiting in line to get into the party.

"I'd just like to take a moment to give a shoutout to the member of Yale's SAE chapter who turned away a group of girls from their party last night, explaining that admittance was on a 'White Girls Only' basis; and a belated shoutout to the SAE member who turned me and my friends away for the same reason last year," she wrote.

Another freshman student at the Ivy League school told The Post he saw darker students being denied entry and heard the white SAE brother at the door shouting, "White girls only. We're only looking for white girls."

Likewise, Sofia Petros-Gouin, a freshman at Columbia University who was visiting Yale for the weekend, says she witnessed the racist party screening,

"A group of girls came up who were predominantly black and Hispanic. He held his hand up to their faces and said, 'No, we're only looking for white girls.' ... He pulled a blond girl up from the bottom of the stairs -- over some people -- pushed her inside and said, 'We are looking for white girls only, white girls only.' No brothers corrected him or said anything."

After conducting a preliminary investigation, a spokesperson from SAE's national office released a statement citing the fraternities "zero tolerance for any behaviors or actions that deviate from our values, mission and creed."

"The Sigma Alpha Epsilon headquarters has been investigating the allegation since it was first brought to our attention," reads the statement. "Based on preliminary information we have received, law-enforcement officers received a noise complaint and visited the house where members held a social event over the weekend, asking the men to stop admitting guests and to clear the steps and sidewalk. The brothers complied with the direction given to them and halted any additional attendance by guests in order to avoid a citation."

An unidentified SAE brother who attended the party also denies the allegations, saying that only non-Yale students were blocked from entering before 11:15 p.m in order to prevent overcrowding.

Earlier this year, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter at the University of Oklahoma came under fire after a video of members singing a racist chant about lynching and using the N-word emerged.
