In the next episode of "The Vampire Dairies," sparks will fly between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and his old flame Valerie (guest star Elizabeth Blackmore), who he learns was pregnant with his child. This reunion could well threaten "Steroline."

Meanwhile, the synopsis for the all-new episode, entitled "Live Through This," reveals that Ian Somerhalder's character Damon promises to change his ways.

"After realizing the downward spiral he was on, Damon decides he's going to turn over a new leaf and that his actions moving forward will do right by Elena (Nina Dobrev). Lily (guest star Annie Wersching) prepares for the arrival of a special figure from her past, while Enzo (Michael Malarkey) stands by not sure what to expect. Elsewhere, at Caroline's (Candice King) urging, Stefan comes face-to-face with Valerie and learns some upsetting details about her past, while Enzo and Bonnie (Kat Graham) find themselves at odds when they're forced to fend off a violent threat. Finally, when Bonnie learns some disturbing information involving the Phoenix stone, she is forced to confront Alaric (Matt Davis)," reads the synopsis, according to CarterMatt.

The trailer for the upcoming episode shows that it is Caroline who encourages Stefan to talk face-to-face with Valerie. However, his discovery that Valerie was once pregnant with his child will greatly impact the relationship known as "Steroline."

The preview also teases that Bonnie will begin to research the Phoenix Stone to make sure that she didn't open up Pandora's box when she used it to resurrect Alaric's wife from the dead.

"In less than 24 hours, I raised two people from the dead with a sketchy spell and something called a Phoenix Stone. No research, no rehearsal time and no contingency plan," Bonnie explains in the sneak peek obtained by TV Guide. "And now that I have a little breathing room, I want to figure out what kind of magic I was dealing with just in case I opened up Pandora's box."

Executive producer Caroline Dries also dropped spoilers about Stefan and Caroline's upcoming breakup, which was revealed in flash-forwards. According to Dries, Valerie will only be part of the reason that the couple split.

"Valerie is part of the reason, but it's a much bigger, more emotional, legit reason ... It's beyond petty jealousy or Stefan cheating on Caroline or anything like that," she told TVLine. "This season is about [our characters] growing up and becoming adults ... [Stefan almost having a child in the past is] something he will be really be thinking about as we move forward in the season. He'll keep thinking, 'I could have been a dad.' We had many ideas [for their backstory], but we felt this was the most symbolic and thematic."

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 Episode 5 premieres on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
