Boxing: Gennady Golovkin Still Willing to Face Carl Froch Anywhere, Says Trainer Abel Sanchez
The unbeaten Kazakh warrior Gennady Golovkin is still willing to face Carl Froch anywhere.
Golovkin's trainer, Abel Sanchez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio that his boxer still desires to have a showdown with "The Cobra." The boxing coach even indicated that "Triple G" is even ready to clash with him anywhere Froch wants the fight to be staged.
"Golovkin is looking for the biggest names, the biggest fights, the biggest financial reward fights for him and Carl represents one of those. Whether it's in England, whether it's in New York or Las Vegas, I think that Golovkin is willing to go anywhere to fight Carl Froch," Sanchez said.
Sanchez relayed that Froch is a boxer whom Golovkin has high regard for because of everything he has achieved in his career. The trainer shared that Golovkin looked up to him even more when he was able to fill the Wembley Stadium last time he fought there against George Groves.
This much admiration and respect to Froch may also be the reason why Golovkin, who refuses to meet Andre Ward at 168 pounds, is prepared to meet "The Cobra" at that weight, per Boxing Scene. It is also in the same light that "Triple G" is ready to go down at 154 pounds just to have a shot at the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr., Boxing Scene noted, citing his ESPN Deportes interview.
Can Golovkin vs. Froch be staged?
Will there be a chance for a Golovkin-Froch bout to be planned? The four-time world boxing champion already stepped away from the game, The Guardian informed in July.
However, the possibility of a fight between these two mighty boxers has surfaced after Froch's promoter, Eddie Hearn told Fight Hype that his boxer has called him about it.
"Carl phoned me for my opinion on the Golovkin fight. Something burns away at Carl to get back in the ring, but as time ticks on, it becomes less and less," Hearn said.
Currently, the World Boxing Association, International Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation king is focused on his goal to unifying the weight division. His next step to accomplish this plan is to fight whoever wins the Nov. 21 World Boxing Council title fight against Puerto Rican champ Miguel Cotto and Mexican golden child Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. If he wins this, he could collide with the World Boxing Organization titlist next, Boxing Scene noted.
However, with Carl Froch now thinking of fighting him, Golovkin may have to deviate from his plans temporarily and face him.
