Hasbro is adding one more product to its cartoon-based movie roster: the popular 80's animated television series, "Jems". Also known as "Jem And The Holograms", the live-action film adaptation will be directed by "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" director, John M. Chu, according to the Toronto Sun.

Along with Chu, the upcoming movie will be co-produced by Jason Blum, the producer of the horror flicks "Insidious" and "Paranormal Activity", as well as Scooter Braun, the music talent manager of the pop sensation Justin Bieber.

The trio announced their joint-project in a Youtube video and even invited fans of the children's program to play a huge part in the production of the film. Chu said, "We want to invite you into our process to help us make our next movie, from making music to designing costumes, to even casting, whatever it is, we want you to be part of our creative team."

Specifically, they're asking them with the promotion of the film adaptation as well as to star in it, Rolling Stones reported. Using their social media accounts such as Twitter and Tumblr, Chu and his team want fans to upload photos or videos with the hashtag #JemTheMovie showing what they love about the cartoon from the 80s.

And, they're also giving them a chance to play a part in the film by uploading a two-minute audition video. They want people of "any age, any gender" to show-off their triple threat talent in singing, dancing, and acting.

Chu added, "This is the real way we're making our movie. This is not a contest; this is actually how we're putting things together."

As for the possible plot, the director commented, "The movie, without giving away too much, is a modern-day, live-action reinvention of the 1980s Hasbro classic cartoon 'Jem And The Holograms'."

According to Variety, the film will center on an orphaned teenage girl who lands a record deal because of her talent. Together with her real and foster sisters, they go on a mission across Los Angeles to unravel the secrets surrounding Jem's father.

Updates about the movie, auditions, and other fan "assignments" will be posted on the "Jem And The Holograms" movie website.
