WWE world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins will not be able to defend his title against Roman Reigns at Survivor Series after suffering a knee injury, which is expected to take six to nine months of recovery. He vacated the title and a new champion will be crowned at the event via a tournament, per WWE.com.

Rollins tore his right ACL, MCL and medial meniscus at a WWE Live Event in Dublin, Ireland in a match against Kane. Former WWE personality and current ESPN host Jonathan Coachman first reported the injury and the tournament on his official Twitter account.

The 29-year-old superstar won the WWE championship at the main event of WrestleMania 31 by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase in the climax of the Brock Lesnar-Roman Reigns match to make a Triple Threat. He was able to hit his finisher on Reigns while Lesnar was outside the ring to win the match and the title.

According to The Mirror, Rollins is currently the best performer for the WWE right now, having great matches throughout the entire year. He has defended his WWE Title against Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Sting and Kane.

He was scheduled to Reigns at Survivor Series after Roman won a Fatal-4 Way match in an episode of Raw. In a report by Inquisitr, there are rumors that WWE will be having preliminary or qualifying matches in the next two weeks before Survivor Series and have about 12 to 16 participants.

The report added that there will be two semi-final matches at the pay-per-view and then have the WWE title match later. The only announced match for the card is the WWE Divas title match between Charlotte and Paige, with the likely main event of The Undertaker, Kane and two others against The Wyatt Family in a traditional Survivor Series elimination match.

What Culture listed eight possible superstars that have the chance to be crowned the new WWE world heavyweight champion at Survivor Series. They are Dean Ambrose, John Cena, Alberto Del Rio, Brock Lesnar, Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns, Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler.
