Starbucks' New iPhone iOS 7 App: Business Locations, Rewards, and Gift Cards Also Made Easier
More changes are coming to Starbucks. The coffee chain has just released a new iOS 7 app on March 19 which features a mobile tipping system. Imagine that instead of dropping your tip in the box, you can now just send it via your iPhone. To some that might seem strange but we guarantee that Starbucks enthusiasts will think it is the best thing ever.
Ever since the coffee giant started, tipping had always been done in cash and this had sort of marginalized people who walk around with only their credit cards. Tipping via mobile phone is also seen as more convenient and baristas at over 7,000 Starbucks locations stand to gain a little more income as a result. As of the latest report at least 10 million new users are getting ready to use the app. Besides tips, the Starbucks app will still facilitate sales of regular Starbucks products.
The new app has improved features of Starbucks' online selling program. The payment feature can now be accessed just by shaking your iPhone. After doing that, the card's barcode will appear and payment can be made. The app also makes it easy to find stores, get directions, and access store-specific hours and amenities.
The earlier version of this app had several tabs at the bottom of the navigation bar. However, the new release has been streamlined to include Gift, Stores and Pay. Besides the new tip feature, Starbucks regulars will appreciate the Pick of the Week (which offers new coffee suggestions), Reward member profiles, messages and more.
The iOS 7 version also has a new icon to celebrate the refreshed design of the app. But, customers who enjoyed the customized drink saving feature in the old version will miss out; instead of saving the customized drink you will now have to take a picture of it and save it to your files for future use.
So the next time you walk inside a Starbucks branch, don't forget to take out your iPhone and tip your barista.
