A high school junior in Missouri is now facing serious consequences after a yearbook prank was linked back to her earlier this month. Now, the victim of her lapse in judgment is stepping forward to give her take.

The prank itself was pulled off by 17-year-old Kaitlyn Booth. After the final proof for the yearbook was approved by the school's staff, Booth decided she would go back and do a little bit of editing by changing the last name of senior Raigan Mastain to "Masturbate."

"I hardly knew her at all," recalled Mastain, who told CBS she thought the prank was done more out of immaturity than actual malice. "I barely worked with her. We weren't friends. But I didn't think I had any problems with her."

The joke ended up being on Booth, however, once she was identified as the guilty party behind the name change. She is now being charged with first-degree property damage, which is a felony, along with harassment.

"I understand the legality ... but I was definitely pretty shocked," Mastain said. "When you're in high school, you do stuff that is not necessarily the smartest, and this was an example of that."

The reason why Booth is being charged with first-degree property damage is because of the total value of the yearbooks she ruined. In total, 720 yearbooks were defaced, and to print new editions would have cost the high school a whopping $41,000.

"The yearbook staff worked diligently to retrieve the ones that had been handed out and to put the stickers over the pages of the yearbooks that were yet to be handed out," said Hickman High School Principal Tracey Conrad.

Despite the school's quick fix, Conrad immediately informed the school's resource officer, who in turn notified local authorities. On May 14 they finally arrested Booth, though as of right now no formal charges have been filed.

"At some point, when someone makes a mistake, there needs to be a consequence," said Mastain, 18, who is headed in the fall to the University of Central Missouri. "I do think it's appropriate. It's bullying. The property damage is an enormous amount of money. It's not to be taken lightly."
