After Cringeworthy Joke Throwing on SNL, Donald Trump Uplifts Ego: 'It Was Very Well Received'
Despite consistent protests of several groups urging NBC to drop GOP presidential bet, Donald Trump, from his "Saturday Night Live" hosting gig, the business mogul still succeeded. On Saturday, he reprised yet another "SNL" show, the second he has had since 2004.
But amid the hype, Trump failed to burn down the house, as a review from The New York Post says. While Trump's hosting gig has been extremely controversial, his appearance in the late night show has been hugely anticipated that it garnered the show's highest rating within four years, enough for Trump to brag that his appearance in a show has been "well-received" despite the cringe-worthy jokes.
In a report by New York Daily News, the multi-billionaire uplifted his ego and claimed that the show had been a blast as he predicted that it had pretty good ratings. "It was very well received and probably got very good ratings, who knows," Trump told in a CNN morning show, "State of the Union."
Huffington Post reports that the presidential nominee boosted the slumping ratings of the NBC show as the Nov. 7 episode delivered the biggest overnight ratings since 2012. The show peaked ratings when Miley Cyrus and Trump's foe, Hillary Clinton, appeared recently, garnering 4.5 rating according to a preliminary Nielsen data. However, it was dethroned by Trump's appearance which drew a 6.6 rating.
Despite the sky-high ratings, Trump's performance was still abashed by several critics.
"Mr. Trump said he hosted the episode to show he could "take a joke," but "S.N.L." hardly threw any his way," James Poniewozik, TV critic and author behind The New York Times' SNL review, writes, adding that the previous episode was "stuck with obvious, anemic political riffs and political sketches that were cringe-worthy all around."
Meanwhile, the Hollywood Reporter review notes that the Trump episode was "rarely funny," "toothless" and "uncomfortable."
Amid the mixed end results of Trump's appearance, the presidential hopeful thanked his supporters, as well his critics, who gave him favorable reviews in his "SNL" stint. The GOP presidential nominee took to Twitter to express gratitude to fans who watched his latest SNL appearance.
Thank you to all of those who gave me such wonderful reviews for my performance on @nbcsnl Saturday Night Live. Best ratings in 4 years! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 9, 2015
