T-Mobile Plans, Features: Binge On Allows Subscribers to Stream Videos Without Using Data
T-Mobile hosted a live event Tuesday to announce their newest feature called Binge On.
With Binge On, T-Mobile subscribers will be able to watch as much streaming video as they want without using up their data plan.
T-Mobile's Un-Carrier X event was hosted by the company's CEO John Legere. At the event, which was also live streamed, the most exciting announcement came from Legere when he confirmed that starting Sunday, customers would be able to watch streaming video without worrying about how much data they use each month.
Customers who have T-Mobile's cheapest plan at $50 per month are only provided with 2 GB of data. Now, these customers can watch as many movies as they want, and they will not be charged hefty fees.
T-Mobile subscribers will be able to enjoy content from popular video-streaming providers like Netflix, Hulu, HBO GO and more. At launch, T-Mobile said they have partnered with 24 different services.
Legere said Binge On will provide "DVD quality" video for T-Mobile subscribers. The resolution will be 480p, but Legere said customers will not notice the difference and emphasized that it is a free feature that no one else offers.
T-Mobile admitted video is the most used form of mobile data. They noticed the trend of people binge watching TV series and wanted to introduce the free video streaming service. The company already offers free music streaming with their "Music Freedom" feature.
T-Mobile subscribers currently on the Simple Choice plans will actually see their plans double in size. Instead of having 1 GB, 3 GB and 5 GB for data, T-Mobile will offer 2 GB, 6 GB, 10 GB and unlimited data for their data plans.
Subscribers with a family plan with four members will see the fourth member receiving free service. Each family member will get 6 GB to themselves without having to share at a cost of $120 per month.
Legere helped answer various questions about the Binge On plan from members in attendance at the event, including one customer who asked if porn would be streamed as well. Legere said yes.
Legere said he is very confident in his company and that they are looking way into the future.
"We are a 2020 company," he said.
