Xbox One Titanfall Video Game Bundle Release and Update: Price Cut in Attempt to Compete with PS4
Does Microsoft's Xbox One now cost less than Sony's PlayStation 4 (PS4)? At least, Walmart and Best Buy are selling them at a relatively low price.
On Friday, Walmart and Best Buy offered a bundle of the Xbox One, as well as the new Titanfall, a first person shooter video game. The price of the Xbox One was almost $450, but with a price cut somewhere between $50 and $60, The New York Times reported.
The new price only becomes visible after the bundle is placed in your online shopping cart, and by logging into the sites; the price cut also extends to the Walmart, and Best Buy physical stores. The price of the Xbox One dropped from $449 to $440, and the price could arguably drop to as close as the $399 price of a PS4.
This might be a great bargain for the customer, and even better sales for Microsoft. Microsoft spokesperson David Dennis explained that the price drop is the decision of its retail partners. And, this is a special promotion offered by Walmart, and Best Buy. Microsoft sets a price, but specific pricing and offers vary by retailer.
CNET reported that Sony's PS4 game console outsold Xbox One in the early months of 2014. But this price war could affect Sony's biggest advantage over Microsoft: pricing. The exclusivity of Titanfall for Xbox One has helped to boost sales. Titanfall is a popular video game, and it has been graded highly by IGN, an 8.9 out of 10.
Not so fast, Microsoft Xbox One: MotleyFool.com breaks down the Xbox One, and the PS4 sales numbers with staggering results. In the U.K., Titanfall's release date sales spiked up to 96 percent, and 70 percent of all Xbox Ones sold that week in the region. But sales of PS4 went up more than 72 percent in the same week, partly due to console shortages.
As of now, Xbox One only sold about half as many consoles as the PS4. What also affects sales for both Xbox One, and PS4 are the video games. The Xbox One cannot play Xbox 360 video games, and the PS4 cannot play PS3 video games, so both Microsoft and Sony rely on console exclusives.
Titanfall, however, can cross both platforms for the Xbox One and the Xbox 360, but the Xbox 360 is more popular. The sales of Xbox 360 has only matched the sales of the PS3. While Titanfall is a wildly popular video game, it will not boost the sales of Xbox One.
The PS4 sales have already skyrocketed.
