As the fight for wage equality continues, it has been revealed that Scarlett Johansson was paid the same as co-stars Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth on the recent "Avengers" film.

Variety is reporting that the actress received the same compensation from "The Avengers" series as her male co-stars Evans ("Captain America") and Hemsworth ("Thor"). The report comes after it was revealed that Johansson received more than double the salary of Hemsworth and Evans for "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

Despite Johansson's big paycheck, Robert Downey Jr. remained the most well-paid cast member of the series, and there remains a great deal of disparity between pay for men and women in Hollywood.

Last month, Jennifer Lawrence spoke out against the gender pay gap, after being paid less than her co-stars in "American Hustle." A year ago, Patricia Arquette spoke out against the issue as well, during her Oscar acceptance speech for her role in "Boyhood."

Disney has been trying to showcase women in lead roles as of late. Even though Johansson's character Black Widow has no standalone film as of yet, the company is developing a "Captain Marvel" film that will have a female lead.

Disney has also focused on creating award vehicles for women, as was most recently seen with "Maleficent," a huge hit for Angelina Jolie. This past spring, "Cinderella" became a huge vehicle for Oscar winner Cate Blanchett.

Next year Emma Watson will star in "Beauty and the Beast," and Mia Wasikowska will be back in "Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass."

The company has also balanced its animated films with more female protagonists. "Brave," "Inside Out," and "Frozen" were the most recent to showcase this paradigm shift, and next year "Finding Dory" looks to be female-driven as well.

The question remains whether the next "Avengers" film will have more female characters. It is also unclear if her paycheck will also translate into more screen time for Johansson.

The Black Widow is set to appear next year in "Captain America: Civil War."
