Latin Grammy Awards 2015 Predictions: Alejandro Sanz the Front-Runner for Best Record of the Year?
The Latin Grammys will take place in one week and will feature a plethora of exciting performances from major artists.
The big talking point of the night will revolve around which artist wins record of the year. There are 10 contestants, all with big opportunities to walk away with the big prize.
Bomba Estereo is a first-time nominee in this category for its hit "Fiesta." The Colombian group's song is also nominated for "Song of the Year" as well and was released by Sony Music Latin.
Another contender is Miguel Bose's "Encanto," which was released by Warner Music Spain S.L. Other contenders include "Sera (Vida de Hombre)" by Café Quijano, "La Vida Entera" by Camila and Marco Antonio Solis, "Ella Es" by Leonel Garcia and Jorge Drexler, "Tus Besos," by Juan Luis Guerra 4.40, "Hasta La Raiz" by Natalia Lafourcade," "Disparo Al Corazon" by Ricky Martin," "Un Zombie a la Intemperie" by Alejandro Sanz and "Ese Camino" by Julieta Venegas.
Many of these participants are former winners in this category. Sanz has pulled out the victory on five different occasions in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 and in 2006 when she won the award alongside Shakira. Juan Luis Guerra was a winner in 2007 for his son "La Llave de Mi Corazon."Jorge Drexler was the winner last year with "Universos Paralelos," which featured Ana Tijoux.
The category used to house only five nominees between 2000 and 2011. Since 2012, it has been expanded to 10 contestants.
Bose, Café Quijano, Juan Luis Guerra 4.40, Lafourcade and Sanz are all nominated for Best Album of the Year as well, which should indicate their prominence in this competitions.
Of those nominated for Best Record, Lafourcade, Martin, Garcia and Sanz are also competing in the prestigious best song category. Sanz and Lafourcade are the only two competing in all three categories, which likely pits them as front-runners.
Based on history however, it looks like Sanz is the most likely to come away with the win for best record next Thursday.
