Shaquille O'Neal Assault Case: Basketball Great Under Investigation for Alleged Attack on Co-Worker
It has recently been reported that Shaquille O'Neal, a four-time NBA champion who is known for his humor and friendly nature in sports, is now under investigation by police for an alleged assault on one of his co-workers.
Robert Williams of Turner Studios, where O'Neal also works there as an NBA analyst, made claims against his co-worker that he was injured after being tackled by him last year. He said in a police report that the 42-year-old retired basketball player "ran out of a room and hit me with a tackle punch to the back knocking me down and falling on top of me injuring my neck and back."
Williams also claimed Turner Security became aware of the incident, which is alleged to have occurred on May 9, within a day, and was first reported to the police on July 2.
However, Shaq's attorney Dennis Roach has spoken out to dismiss the claims, insisting that the incident "was nothing more than horseplay. No one intended for anyone to get injured."
Robert Williams's attorney immediately denied Roach's statement. "We understand that the physical attack by Shaquille O'Neal upon Mr. Robert Williams is under criminal investigation. Mr. Williams is presently recovering after surgery," he said. "However, he does state, emphatically, that the permanent injuries he received were not the result of participation in any form of 'horseplay.'"
Atlanta police Sgt. Greg Lyon explained the current status of the case. "The investigation was initially handled by the zone and as that investigation deepened, it was transferred to the complex case squad," he said. "At the conclusion of their investigation, we'll have their findings and we'll go forth from there, whether charges will be filed, whether it will be reviewed by the DA's office."
