‘Terminator: Genesis’ Release Date, Cast & News Updates: Arnold Schwarzenegger Reveals Details of His Role in Film
At 66 years old, Arnold Schwarzenegger proves he is still one of the most dominant actors in the world of action films. And, in his latest project "Terminator: Genesis", fans can once again see the actor-politician relive his most iconic role.
But of course, fans can't help but think about how Schwarzenegger's age would fit in the fifth installment of the "Terminator" franchise. After all, it was 20 years ago when Arnie as the T-800 hunted down Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) in 1984's "The Terminator", Complex reported.
But in an interview with MTV, Schwarzenegger talked about how his age would be tackled by the film and what fans can expect to see in "Genesis".
He said, "It does get more difficult when you're 66 years old and doing this kind of action, versus when you're in your 30s or in your 40s."
He added, "The way that the character is written, it's a machine underneath. It's this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator's flesh ages, just like any other human being's flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages,"
Schwarzenegger continued, "Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800 and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets a hold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie."
Regarding the "younger" Terminator that he was referring to, Cinemablend speculated that the upcoming film might feature a T-800 in the 1940s or 1950s. It might also introduce the scientist who inspired the design for the Terminator models.
"Terminator: Genesis" is scheduled to hit theaters on July 1, 2015. It will be directed by Alan Taylor, the man behind "Thor: The Dark World". Although "Genesis" is the fifth film in the series, it will be Schwarzenegger's fourth "Terminator" project.
He did not star in "Terminator Salvation" with Christian Bale and when asked to comment on it, he said, "I was upset that I couldn't be in the fourth Terminator, because I was Governor. So they did the fourth one without me, it made me cry a little bit. But I did say 'I'll be back,' so now I'm back again and it's going to be really terrific."
