BlackBerry Priv T-Mobile Sales, News: T-Mobile CEO Says BlackBerry Is 'On a Comeback'
T-Mobile CEO John Legere thinks BlackBerry is "on a comeback."
Legere is not one of the BlackBerry skeptics, choosing to support the beleaguered company instead, CNet reports.
BlackBerry and T-Mobile had a disagreement in 2014 and BlackBerry decided to cut ties with the carrier when T-Mobile e-mailed BlackBerry owners and encouraged them to buy an iPhone instead. The two companies improved their relationship this year when T-Mobile started offering the BlackBerry Classic to its customers.
BlackBerry has struggled mightily with its smartphone business, falling behind Android and iOS phones. In an effort to gain some customers back, BlackBerry created the Priv slider phone with a full keyboard that runs the Android operating system.
"While we don't carry the Priv right now, we may have something to report soon," a T-Mobile spokeswoman said. "We are definitely talking with BlackBerry."
BlackBerry is happy they have T-Mobile's support.
"I'm energized about our renewed relationship with T-Mobile and I'm excited about what 2016 will bring we continue to move forward together," BlackBerry CEO John Chen said Sunday in an e-mail.
T-Mobile has been aggressive with their marketing and plan offerings. They have gotten rid of contracts, added more data to their plans and just started allowing unlimited streaming video and music without eating up data.
Legere has called out his wireless competitors in the past. He called AT&T greedy and said Sprint was "in a tough spot." T-Mobile recently overtook Sprint as the nation's third largest wireless carrier.
BlackBerry hopes its PRIV phone can bring back BlackBerry fans from the past who like the full physical keyboard, but also have adapted to the Android operating system. AT&T will be the first to carry the phone.
