The sequel for "Prometheus" has undergone a new change to the title, and now a synopsis for the upcoming film has been released.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the new sequel to the 2012 film will be called "Alien: Covenant." The previous name of the film was "Alien: Paradise Lost," but that title has been scrapped and replaced with this new update.

The studio for the film, 20th Century Fox, confirmed this new name will be part of the "Alien" franchise via their Twitter account and released the image to go along with it.

There has also been a synopsis released for the film, which will feature the return of Michael Fassbender's David, a synthetic life form that survived the previous film.

Here is the synopsis:

"Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in 'Alien' with 'Alien: Covenant,' the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with 'Prometheus' -- and connects directly to Scott's 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the 'synthetic' David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."

There are many aspects to this synopsis that mirror that of Scott's original work and seem to be pointing the franchise in the direction of the original 1979 film that has received critical appraise by critics and fans alike and stands as a classic in the genre.

But there is one main character that has been left out of the synopsis as a survivor from the original "Prometheus" film and that is Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace). It leaves fans to wonder if she has already died before the crew of Covenant arrives. Has there been a long passage of time, such as possibly centuries?

The film has been given a release date of Oct. 6, 2017.
