NFL: Tim Tebow Returning to Philadelphia Eagles?
Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Sam Bradford picked up a concussion and shoulder injury in the 20-19 loss against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. Mark Sanchez is the only remaining quarterback in the Eagles' roster, and with no timetable on the return of Bradford, rumors are swirling that Chip Kelly may sign Tim Tebow, per The Orlando Sentinel.
X-rays on Bradford's shoulder came back negative, but he was diagnosed with a concussion that could cause him to miss games due to the NFL's concussion protocol. Tebow was released by the Eagles before the start of the season after many believed that he was a lock to make the team, per ESPN.
Inquisitr noted that Eagles' head coach Chip Kelly is still a fan of Tebow. The news outlet speculates that the Eagles have cut him loose because no team will try to sign him. Kelly is a known Tebow fan and he likes how the former Heisman Trophy winner plays.
The 28-year-old quarterback is best suited to play for Philadelphia because he already knows the team's offense and the remaining free agent quarterbacks available are very thin. NBC Sports reports that Ryan Mallett, Jason Campbell and Rex Grossman are the only remaining playmakers in free agency. John Johnson signed with the Buffalo Bills after Tyrod Taylor suffered an injury and Matt Flynn joined the New Orleans Saints when Luke McCown went down.
Sanchez will start for the Eagles and coach Kelly is very confident in the ability of his backup quarterback. In the nine games he played last season, Sanchez threw 14 touchdowns with 11 interceptions and three fumbles, per Pro Football Reference.
The Denver Broncos also lost Peyton Manning after tearing his plantar fascia in his left foot during the 29-13 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. He was pulled from the game and an unknown backup quarterback, Brock Osweiler, filled in for him.
However, The Orlando Sentinel adds that even though there are reports indicating that teams like the Eagles, Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears are interested in Tebow, he won't be coming back to the NFL. There's no official report that a team has reached out to Tebow and the player knows he may never play in the league again.
Currently, Tebow is working at SEC Network as a college football analyst after his latest comeback attempt came up short. Do you think Tim Tebow will play in the NFL ever again? Share your thoughts and comments below.
