Amid flak from Filipinos who complained for long -- almost overnight -- traffic, numerous Filipinos found relief over the sight of two of the leaders who attended Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.

Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have captured the eyes and hearts of numerous Filipino netizens -- women in particular -- and the two are now currently vying for the ultimate #APECHottie recognition.

On Tuesday, as the two dignitaries and other country leaders arrive, social media was blasted with tweets and posts talking about the two leaders. Some would even pick a camp, saying that they are either #TeamNieto or #TeamTrudeau.

According to Philippine Daily Inquirer, the 43-year-old prime minister was dubbed as the "sexiest leader in the free world" and as CBC News reports, he is also endeared to be the "Canadian Bae." Meanwhile, the 49-year-old Mexican president was fondly called as the "Mexican Papi."

The debate of who between the two leaders is more attractive started out as a trending topic in the Philippines until it swept like conflagration, dominating even the global trending topics section. Aside from #APECHottie, it was also reported that #APECBae trended as the Philippine summit commenced. Some witty swooned fans even coined the term "bae-conomic" for Nieto and Trudeau. But while it seemed that Trudeau has been warmly welcomed by those whose hearts he has captured, the prime minister faces a controversial issue concerning Canada's illegal dumping of decaying waste in the Philippines back in 2013.

As for Nieto, this was his second time to visit the country and he arrived alongside his wife, much to the netizens dismay. According to CNN Philippines, the first time he made a visit was when he had to make a stopover on his way to Australia in 2014.
