2017 Mitsubishi Mirage Unveiled in LA Auto Show 2015, New Model Compatible With Apple CarPlay, Android Auto
Mitsubishi has unveiled the new 2017 Mirage at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show and it will be on sale next year, omitting the 2016 model year. The new Mirage is still a budget-friendly car with an updated style and new equipment, per Auto Blog.
"Mirage has gained popularity with its affordable and practical appeal. Mirage owners are looking for a vehicle that does its job well and is reliable. The Mirage continues to deliver all of those attributes, and the improvements to the 2017 model year will expand the Mirage's appeal even more," Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. Executive Vice President Don Swearingen said in a statement.
The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage has a 1.2-liter inline, three cylinder engine with a new camshaft that produces 78 horsepower and 74-pound-feet of torque. The DOHC engine also features the latest version of the MIVEC or Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control.
It is a variable valve-timing system that minimizes emissions of the exhaust while maximizing fuel efficiency and power output. The front brake discs and rear drums are made larger with improved handling and stability. The suspension is retuned while offering a five-speed manual and CVT automatic transmissions.
According to Digital Trends, the exterior looks good because the car's front end now has a more traditional grille and lower air intake detailing. The hood, rear spoiler and bumper are all reshaped with fog, headlamps and LED tail lights. There are no changes made on its wheels, remaining with a standard 14-inch alloy with optional 15-inch rims.
The updates look better in the interior with the addition of new fabrics for the seats, a new steering wheel, gauge cluster and shift panel with a 300-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system with EcoPunch. The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage is also the first model of the Japanese car company to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility in the U.S.
The infotainment systems from Apple and Android have already been offered on a few Mitsubishi models in Europe. The 2017 version of Mirage also has extensive safety features, which include a seven air bag system, four-wheel anti-lock brakes and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage will be available in spring 2016, but no details about the price have been mentioned. Auto Sport speculates a small increase in the car's price from the current model's $12,995 value because of the additional upgrades. Alternatives to the 2017 Mirage are the Chevrolet Spark, Kia Rio and Nissan Versa.
