Latin Grammys Recap: Natalia Lafourcade and Juan Luis Guerra Among Big Winners
The Latin Grammys were handed out on Thursday night with many big surprise winners and some stellar performances.
The big winner of the night was Natalia Lafourcade, who took home the record of the year as well as the Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Song. The singer performed her award winning hit "Hasta La Raiz."
However, it was Juan Luis Guerra who took home the Best Album of the year for his album "Todo Tiene Su Hora."
Among the biggest surprises were Mana, who performed alongside Banda el Recodo and made a political statement urging audiences to not vote for racists. Mana also won the Best Pop/Rock Album for "Cama Incendiada."
The award for Best New Artist was awarded for Monsieur Periné, the new Colombian group which has dedicated itself to performing Jazz, Swing and Pop.
J Balvin and Rene Cano took home the Best Urban Song for the "Ay Vamos" while Gilberto Santa Rosa took home the award Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for "Nescito un Bolero."
The Best Urban Music Album went to Tego Calderon for "El Que Sabe, Sabe." Diamante Electrico took home the Best Rock Album fro "B" while Rubén Blades Con Roberto Delgado & Orquesta won the Best Salsa Album for "Son de Panama."
Enrique Iglesias shared the award with Nicky Jam for Best Urban Performance.
The Academy gave a special recognition award to the legendary singer Roberto Carlos, who also performed many of his popular hits.
Will Smith delivered a stellar performance as expected alongside Bomba Estereo while Ricky Martin performed with Wisin. Maluma teamed up with Fifth Harmony for an unforgettable performance while Juan Luis Guerra sang one of his latest hits.
The ceremony concluded with a vallenato from Silvestre Dangond and Nicky Jam.
