Real Madrid was defeated 2-1 by Sevilla on Wednesday, falling behind in the La Liga title race against Atletico Madrid (73 points) and FC Barcelona (72). The game took place at the Estadio Roman Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville.

Thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid led early through Ronaldo's free kick leading his 27th goal of the season in the 14th minute. However, it was Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca that made a comeback with his punishing counters earning him a double score in the 19th and 73rd.

The loss is Real Madrid's second consecutive loss in the league, keeping their point total for the season at 70. Madrid's loss was 4-3 on Sunday against its FC Barcelona rivals. It follows Real coach Carlos Ancelotti's side that has gone undefeated for 31 consecutive matches. Barcelona's Lionel Messi out-dueled Ronaldo by scoring a hat trick that earned Barcelona the win.

"We have to keep working, fighting and ask our fans for forgiveness," said Real full-back Marcelo. "It's tough to do what we did, to keep winning for so many games. We have lost two games. They aren't more important, but they are critical. Now everything is much more difficult." (CBCSports)

Despite the aggravating loss, Ancelotti still believes that his side can bring it home and ultimately earn Real the La Liga title win.

"We need to concentrate on our own games, it is true we have lost two games in a row and that is not good at this point in the season," said Ancelotti. (Yahoo! News)

"It is difficult to do what we had been doing, continuing to win so many games in a row. We have lost two games that were key, but not the most important because we have many more difficult games coming up." (Yahoo! News)

As the games become increasingly difficult, Real may just have a chance to redeem themselves. With Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés unable to play due to his recent anterior cruciate ligament damage, Real may have a chance to get back in the game and play for the win.
