In the latest update on Google Hangouts, a user doesn't need a Google account in order to access the app. However, an invitation is needed in order to use it.

On their Official Google for Work Blog, the update was announced, saying, "This week we're rolling out an update to Google Hangouts that makes joining a video call as simple as clicking a link in an invitation." The main idea of the said update is to create an easier way to access meetings by mere invitation. Users will not be required to fill out any forms in order to join the session.

In order to invite the party to join Google Hangouts, you will need the Google Calendar to invite your external guests. By clicking a link on the event description, you can start filling in their names in order to let yourself take control of what's being discussed in the meeting, a prompt will be given to you. The prompt will then ask you whether to accept or deny the entry of a new participant using the web, your mobile phone or Chromebox for meetings. Additional features also include the blocking and muting of a non-concerned participant in a meeting.

According to Computer World, the Google Hangouts update was also introduced as part of Google + and is expected to be implemented this week. Ezra Gottheil, an analyst at the Technology Business Researc, said, "This is very helpful. While there may not be many people without Google accounts, it's impossible to use this in a commercial setting with the old account requirement." Google account is mandatory to organizers of the meeting, but those that they are going to invite don't need to have one to access Google Hangouts.

The invitation is as simple as sending a link, according to Venture Beat. To cap it off, the new Google Hangouts update basically allows an invited user to join a conference without signing up for any Google account, filling up unwanted forms as well as registering to the app itself. The new feature will significantly make things easier for organizers to convene their subordinates and everyone concerned in the said meeting.

As stated in Google's official blog, "Connect with teammates and get things done, while maintaining the control and security you need in a work environment."

What do you think about the latest Google Hangouts update? Is it practical or does it post some security breach among users of the app?
