Horror Drama ‘Haunted’ Coming to Fox, Based on True Story
The TV networks are really trying to cash in on the horror dramas, especially Fox who is bringing the new series "Haunted" to the broadcast network.
According to Deadline, the series "Haunted" is mostly based off the Bob Cranmer novel "The Demon of Brownsville Road" and will feature accounts of the story that have been classified as true. Fans already know what that means, given that "The Conjuring," "The Amityville Horror" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" also made the same claims, but they were dramatically changed for cinematic effect.
The story itself does have a few complexities though that viewers might get drawn to right away. The main character is a woman who is a military agent and is sent to investigate a case. She is painfully partnered with her ex-boyfriend, who is now a rogue demonologist, and they are both sent to a help a family overcome an affliction that has occurred at their home, which has been described as one of the most haunted houses in America. That description is also where the "true story" tag comes in as well.
Setting aside the unlikely case of it actually being true down to the last detail, the story is able to create a more immersive experience by the unification of two unlikely partners, which is even further complicated by their romantic history.
She is a non-believer and he believes without hesitation. So they will work both sides of the case, which includes her practical understanding versus his supernatural understanding.
Herein lies the arc that drives the story though. They must in some way find answers to what is happening in the present before they can understand the dark history of the house, which is plagued with lethal demonic entities.
The series hails from the writer and director of "The Devil Inside," William Brent Bell. There has been no word yet when the series will debut on the network. It is currently listed as "in development."
