If anybody is qualified to speak on the validity of a sport, it's probably the owner of a sports team. During a charity event where he played "League of Legends," Dallas Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban defended eSports saying it's "a real sport" and slamming Colin Cowherd for his previous criticisms of competitive gaming.

According to a previous report from GameSpot, Cowherd first drew the ire of the community after making disparaging statements about competitive gaming in his Fox Sports show "The Herd".

"That was the nerd equivalent of 'band on the field,'" the former ESPN radio host said on his show. Later, Cowherd joked about gamers saying, "Now he's going upstairs to his room, a room where a girl has never entered. He sits down -- look at that 'Star Wars' collection! -- and goes to town on the Hot Pocket; there is your eSports champion."

The outspoken radio personality has also previously threatened to quit ESPN if forced to cover competitive gaming.

While Cuban is deeply involved in a more traditional sport with his NBA team, the businessman showed he is willing to expand his horizons to other forms of competitions. A report from Destructoid revealed that the sports personality was part of an event that pitted him against Intel CEO Brian Krzanich in a "League of Legends" game.

Before the match, Cuban spent a few minutes talking to Cowherd's co-host Kristine Leahy who asked him about his thoughts on eSports.

"I love Colin, but he is an idiot when it comes to eSports," Cuban said to delighted cheers from the crowd. "I'm a noob, I'm still getting into it, but I love it. It is like playing five dimensional Chess against the world; it is one of the smartest games I've ever played, you gotta have dexterity, you gotta be quick."

He added, "This is a real sport. People are going to figure it out really, really quick."

A "Shark Tank" investor as well as an NBA owner, Cuban doesn't have much time to spend on "League of Legends" as he would've liked as he quipped he's only played three games before the event. He dismissed his inexperience, saying he's "f***ing smart" enough to pick it up quickly.

The NBA owner went on to show how similar the battlefield is between the two sports as he trash talked his fellow businessman and rival saying, "What's even better is, I'm gonna show Brian just how real it's about to get."
