A new poll reveals that more Americans trust Hillary Clinton to handle the threat of terrorism instead of all of the Republican candidates running in the 2016 presidential election.

According to the ABC News/Washington Post survey released Monday, the Democratic front-runner has taken the lead over many of the GOP candidates by a wide margin when it comes to the issue of terrorism. She also beats GOP front-runner Donald Trump by 8 points and Ben Carson by 9 points.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, however, is the closest Republican contender to measure up to the former secretary of state when it comes to fighting terrorism since 43 percent of those surveyed back Bush, compared to 46 percent who support Clinton.

Clinton also holds an 8-point lead over Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, 48 to 40 percent, and a 4-point advantage over Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, 47 to 43 percent.

The survey, which was conducted by Langer Research Associates from Nov. 16 to 19, also shows that 57 percent of Americans disapprove of how President Barack Obama is handling the Islamic State militant group in Iraq and Syria, while only 35 percent approve. Plus, 54 percent disapprove of how the president is responding to the threat of terrorism, compared with 40 percent who approve.

Meanwhile, a recent Bloomberg Politics national poll revealed Friday that Clinton has gained a strong 25-point lead over Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential primary race. The poll, which was conducted after the last Democratic primary debate and the terror attacks in Paris, shows that Clinton has continued to gain traction among likely voters in her party and now leads Sanders 55 to 30 percent.

The polling data also reveals that voters prefer the former secretary of state over the Vermont senator 3-to-1 when it comes to key presidential characteristics, including the ability to combat terrorism and climate change and having the competence to get things done. On the other hand, more voters favored the self-proclaimed "Democratic Socialist" when it comes to cracking down on Wall Street and being honest and trustworthy.
