Ghost Games has shared new details regarding the first Need for Speed update known as the Icons patch.

The patch includes a much-needed fix to the game's rubber-banding issues, that's when the AI strangely catch up during races, sometimes to a fault.

On a recent blog post on the official "Need for Speed" website, Ghost Games' content and community manager Ben Walke delved into the specifics of what will be changed and said the studio is aware of the complaints from fans. "With all this feedback in mind we have made changes to the AI behavior which should improve your overall experience," said Walke.

Apart from bug fixes, the patch enhances the game's main menu to highlight community events. These are new in-game competitions that reward players with bonus cash, rep and price cuts for a limited time. The first event will begin on Nov. 24, offering 40 percent discounts on performance upgrades.

Two new icon cars will also be made available in the new update. These are the Morohoshi Lamborghini Diablo SV and the Ken Block Hoonicorn. Those who choose to pick up the former will be able to outfit it with neon lights as shown here. The Diablo SV is the only car to feature the accessory since the lights are still in development.

There are also three new trophies/achievements, fresh daily challenges and a rep increase from 50 to 60. A new ability has been added that allows players to mirror decals to the other side of a vehicle. Meanwhile, the color picker has been upgraded to let players be more precise with their customizations.

The complete change logs are as follows:

  • More balanced AI Catch Up
  • New Wrap Editor features:
  • Mirror functionality
  • Improved color picker
  • Hoonicorn and Morohoshi-San Diablo
  • Gifted upon completion of their respective narrative threads
  • First look at neons
  • Early in development version on Morohoshi-San's Diablo
  • REP increase from 50 to 60
  • Three new trophies and achievements
  • New daily challenges
  • 30 new pre-set wraps
  • General bugs, tweaks and improvements

The Icons patch will begin rolling out on Nov. 25.

GameSpot reviewer Scott Butterworth gave "Need for Speed" an 8/10 rating. He called the game "far from perfect, but it is, at points, truly exceptional."

"Its jaw-dropping visuals, adrenaline-pumping audio, and highly-customizable handling make screaming around the darkened streets of Ventura Bay an intense thrill," said Butterworth. The sense of ownership that comes with tuning a single ride to perfection rather than simply grabbing the flashiest vehicle available proved tremendously rewarding."
