Mariah Carey Talks Jennifer Lopez Feud
Mariah Carey recently revealed that she was being sincere when she made her infamous comment 10 years ago about not knowing pop singer Jennifer Lopez.
In an interview with The Cut, Carey was asked whether she had been given any weird presents recently. The singer revealed that a fan made her a graphic T-shirt that featured the infamous quote.
When Carey was asked at another interview a decade earlier what she thought about Lopez, the singer responded, "I don't know her."
"I really wasn't trying to be funny. I was just being honest and everybody's kind of blowing it out of proportion but this guy had a shirt on and it was a picture of me that he made and the quote was underneath it," Carey revealed to The Cut.
While Carey added that her response wasn't intended to be insulting, she has made other comments about Lopez that definitely were insulting to the Puerto Rican star.
According to The Huffington Post, Carey insisted that she'd "rather be onstage with a pig" than sing a duet with Lopez. She also explained that she and Lopez weren't artistic equals.
"She's a dancer isn't she? She lip-synced Selena's vocals you know. I don't think that as a singer we are in the same category as artists," Carey said.
Lopez, however, denied having any problems or any feud with Carey in a 2014 interview with Andy Cohen, reported E! Online.
"I know from back in the day, I've read things that she's said about me that were not the greatest, but we have never met. Like, we don't know each other," Lopez explained. "I think it's kind of from word of mouth of things that have happened in the past that I'm not really aware of. But I don't know."
The Latina went on to reveal that she would love to meet Carey, whom she looks up to artistically, and would love to actually be friends with her.
"I think she's incredibly talented and I've always been a fan of hers," Lopez said. 'My All' is one of my favorite songs of all time. I just love her. It saddens me to hear anything that's negative because I'm a fan of hers."
