Dallas Mavericks vs San Antonio Spurs: Preview, TV Schedule & Where to Watch
The Dallas Mavericks are looking to avoid their third straight loss as they visit the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center on Wednesday night. It is the first of four matchups this season between the Southwest Division rivals.
The Mavericks suffered their second consecutive defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday at the FedEx Forum. J.J. Barea and Raymond Felton both had 16 points but that was not enough in the 110-96 loss. Dirk Nowitzki and Zaza Pachulia scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, while both grabbing 10 rebounds.
"We did a poor job of ball protection in the first half. Twelve turnovers for a bunch of points. We did better in the second half, but we dug ourselves too big of a hole," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said after the game.
Dallas was riding a six-game winning streak when they lost a close game 117-114 versus the Oklahoma City Thunder last Sunday. They are currently fourth in the Western Conference with a surprising 9-6 record after a very disappointing offseason that saw them missed out on a couple of free agents including DeAndre Jordan.
The Spurs got past the Phoenix Suns on Monday with a 98-84 victory that brought their win total to 11 out of 14 games this season. Kawhi Leonard had a great overall game, scoring 24 points, grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds, dishing out four assists with four steals and a block.
"Kawhi is one of those guys defensively, he gets after it. When he's around the ball you've got to be strong with it and you've got to be able to get rid of it without getting it knocked away," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said after their loss.
"Kawhi Leonard was spectacular on both ends of the court," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich added. Tony Parker chipped in 20 points and eight assists while Patty Mills scored 10 points off the Spurs bench. LaMarcus Aldridge missed his second straight game with a left ankle sprain he suffered in the loss against the New Orleans Pelicans last Friday.
According to CBS Sports, Aldridge is still questionable for the game against the Mavs, and David West will continue to start in his place at power forward. San Antonio is in second place in the West behind the undefeated Golden State Warriors.
The two teams split their season series last year, gaining two wins each at their home floor. Tip-off starts at 8:30 p.m. ET and is available on NBA League Pass and televised locally on FSSW and KENS HD.
