Leonardo DiCaprio's latest project, "The Revenant," could be his biggest chance of snagging the elusive Oscar Award, given the circumstance he went through just to finish the film.

First off, Dicaprio said in an interview following the movie's screening, that "The Revenant" has been the most difficult film he's ever done or the entire team, Variety reports. The rehearsals for the movie took the longest time to work on as the whole team has to spend a specific and very short time to shoot some of the most unusual and interesting features of the location. Also, what made everything more difficult was the weather conditions.

The director of "The Revenant" Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu said, "Conditions were against us all the time." He also mentioned the intricate single takes they had to shoot as well as the cold weather. He further said that being from a tropical country, Mexico didn't help either. The film was finally completed last week, but Inarritu's quest for the film's locations started five years ago.

DiCaprio, on the other hand, said that "The Revenant" has a deeper meaning than just a film about a man trying to track down his oppressors. The concept of the film has a poetry hidden beyond its intensive characters, settings and concept, and that's what they wanted to bring about.

The Hollywood A-list star went on to say that there's no amount of preparation that can actually make him ready for the film as it may have been so easy for things to get lost in translation during the filming process. DiCaprio also revealed that his character didn't have much dialogue, even tagging it as an almost "silent-movie performance."

The Hollywood Reporter said that the movie screening on Monday was attended by award voters and tastemakers. The filmmakers are all hoping that it will catch the attention of the award giving body and make it worthy of an award.

The film has received several reviews, which are a mixture of pros and cons for the film as well as the lead actor's performance. "The Revenant" was described as a combination of gruesomeness yet gorgeously created scenes. The gore that has been highlighted on some of the scenes apparently led people to walk out in the middle of the showing. While it is considered a much-loved film, it is definitely not intended for everybody.

Do you think Leonardo DiCaprio will able to snag an Oscar next year for "The Revenant?"
