World Wrestling Entertainment: Randy Orton to Have Neck Surgery After Recovery from Shoulder Injury
WWE superstar Randy Orton is currently sidelined with an injured shoulder and is out for approximately four to six months. According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter via Wrestle Zone, Orton is facing an extended absence as he will need neck surgery after recovering from his shoulder injury.
His neck surgery will be scheduled after his shoulder completely heals, possibly around April or May 2016. Orton injured his shoulder early in November. WWE.com confirmed it, saying that it is a significant injury that will keep him out for an extended period.
"Randy has suffered from a dislocated shoulder. He's had chronic problems with his shoulder, and a recent MRI that was done found he has a Bankart lesion in his shoulder, some stretched ligaments and a partially torn rotator cuff," WWE physician Dr. Steve Daquino said
"At this point it's a matter of when he dislocates the shoulder again, and not if. It looks like he might require surgery and recovery time for such a surgery would be four to six months," he added. Orton revealed in an interview with Silver Vision back in 2008 that he was discovered to be suffering from hypermobile shoulders.
"It turns out I had hypermobile shoulders. I was born that way so my shoulders were all loosey goosey and basically had to get tightened up," the 35-year-old said. Wrestle Zone also noted that Orton's neck injury is not very serious and will just need a routine procedure that cleans out bone chips in his neck.
However, there is a very small possibility that doctors may find more damage that would require a neck fusion surgery. WWE officials are just hoping that it his neck is not in a worse condition so that he will only miss about three to six months after his scheduled neck surgery.
Meltzer added via What Culture that his shoulder issues will keep him out until after WrestleMania 32 with the worst case scenario being out another year after neck surgery that will make him miss WrestleMania 33 or it may even cause him his career.
The best case scenario for Orton is a full recovery from his shoulder and neck injuries, making him healthy enough to come back in time for SummerSlam 2016. He was recently married to his second wife and has been in the WWE main event picture for more than 10 years. He's only 35 years old and has made a lot of money that he doesn't really need the WWE anymore.
