Chevrolet Colorado 2016 Specs & Features: What to Know About the Upcoming Model
The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado was named Truck of the Year by Motor Trend for the second consecutive year. A select number of judges evaluated the cars in six different categories that include design, efficiency, engineering excellence, performance of intended function, safety and value.
"Our Truck of the Year is not only stylish and capable on-road and off, it recorded the highest fuel economy numbers we've ever seen when equipped with its class-exclusive diesel engine," senior features editor and presenter of the award Jason Cammisa said in a press release.
The 2016 edition of Colorado is available in three efficient and powerful engines that offer up to 31 miles per gallon. The 2.5L I-4 engine offers 27 MPG and is equipped with Direct Injection and Variable Valve Timing features while the 3.6L V6 engine has the Spark Ignition Direct Injection and deceleration fuel cutoff that provides 26 MPG.
The new Duramax 2.8L Turbo-Diesel is also available that is made in Thailand with the basic design inspired in Brazil while the transmission is assembled in Mexico, per Car and Driver. Six-speed manual transmission is offered on the basic models while others have the automatic six-speed transmission.
The car's exterior is designed for any environment and is available with the GearOn accessory system that provides a two-tier loading, bed divider to store any equipment, a bike rack carrier, and utility rack. It has four-wheel disc brakes that help reduce trembling and an Electric Power Steering that can endure any kind of road condition.
As for its interiors, Colorado has the Chevrolet MyLink feature that supports Apple CarPlay that can be used for music, calls and text messages. A Pandora radio is also installed with a navigation system and a three-month trial of SiriusXM Travel Link.
Seats are available in leather and the standard cloth that provides support and more than three inches of legroom in the front and rear, per Chevrolet. OnStar RemoteLink app for Apple and Android was also retained that allows the owner to start the vehicle, lock and unlock at any place and activate the truck's horn and lights for locating it.
It safety features include a durable steel frame, a safety cage, impact air bags, a standard rear vision camera, forward collision alert and lane departure warning. OnStar is also equipped with the Automatic Crash Response system that automatically shuts down the fuel pump, unlocks the doors and turns on hazard lights.
According to Motor Trend, the 2016 Colorado's price starts at $21,000 for the basic truck that could go up to $37,000 if part of the Special Editions like the Z71 Trail Boss that features black 17-inch wheels, and the Midnight Edition the offers an all-black appearance.
