December 2015 will see the Oppo R7s getting shipped in the U.S. and Europe. From what is currently known of the handset, it can be classified as an upper mid-level smartphone. But before tech pundits can find out for sure, a higher-ended variant of the R7s has emerged online, courtesy of TENAA.

Known as the R7s Plus, the device was first spotted by GizmoChina on the Chinese certification website. As its name implies, it carries hardware improvements over the R7s. First off, its screen size has been beefed up to six inches. However, the 1080 x 1920 Full-HD resolution display remains the same. The retention is a surprising move for Oppo, considering the fact it was one of the first OEMs to jump into the Quad-HD bandwagon last year.

Another upgrade is the R7s Plus's rumored use of the MediaTek MT6795 chipset. It can be remembered that the R7s has Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615 under the hood. Battery capacity has also been increased from 3,070 mAh to 4,100 mAh. Outside of that, the R7s Plus's has the same amount of RAM and camera combo as the R7s.

Oppo has yet to release official word regarding the R7s Plus. Rumor has it, the device will cost around ¥3,300. That's approximately $517.

As for the R7s, DigitalTrends pointed out that the smartphone is already available in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Folks in the U.S. and Europe can grab the unlocked and SIM-free version of the R7s starting in December for $400.

The R7s is equipped with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage expandable via micro-SD up to 128GB. It sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED 1080 x 1920 display with 2.5D screen glass.

AMOLED or Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode enhances key areas of the older IPS LCD display. AMOLED separately illuminates each pixel over a thin film transistor. This display setup improves the color scheme of any given frame. Bright colors are rendered brighter while dark colors are noticeably darker, per Gizmag.

Meanwhile, the 2.5D screen improves the R7s visually and ergonomically. This is because users can swipe their fingers anywhere on its surface without having their fingers getting caught on the protruding glass corners.

The R7s is fitted with a 13-megapixel back camera that supports phase detection autofocus. The camera feature is so quick that it only takes one tenth of a second to focus. Lastly, selfies and video chats are taken care of by an eight-megapixel front-facing unit.
