Samsung Galaxy S7 Release Date, Specs: No Major Design Changes; Improved Performance & Display Expected
After the new look of the Samsung Galaxy S6 that made waves and stood out from the rest of the Galaxy S lineup, many are expecting the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 to be a redesign on the flagship collection as well. However, new reports revealed that the leading electronics company is not planning to do another major overhaul of the next installment.
According to a report from G for Games, Samsung is looking to keep production costs minimal on their next flagship device. To achieve this, there will hardly be a change in the aesthetics of the Samsung Galaxy S7. Instead, the company will reportedly pour their resources into internal upgrades including camera quality and performance specs.
The report also cited a source from brokerage firm Korea Investment who said the new Samsung handset is set to be launched during MWC 2016 in Barcelona, Spain in February 2016. Releasing the smartphone earlier is unlikely as it might be in direct competition against other Samsung products such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Previous reports had a conflicting launch date in mind in January 2016.
As expected, Samsung has kept mum on the new phone as the buzz surrounding it grows and its expected release date nears. A leak from Mobi Picker revealed that there's a lot to look forward to in the new Galaxy S device as its processor Exynos 8890 reportedly scored an impressive 103692 in benchmark tests. Not even the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or Huawei's Kirin 950 chipset managed close to a score that high, so it's important to keep in mind the leaks could be inaccurate.
A previous report from Latin Post revealed some of the speculated details on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 including a 4K display. Another one of the prominent features of the smartphone is new camera technology called Britechild, which provides better light sensitivity and less distortion for overall improvement in image quality.
According to a report from Know Your Mobile, the new Samsung device will also reportedly feature two variants of the model, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge with a curved display. This will follow the increasingly common pattern of dual-launches, which Samsung achieved for the previous models including the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. It's also possible that Samsung bring back the micro-SD in this handset as some of the rumors have suggested.
