Selena Quintanilla's Life Remembered on Anniversary of Death
Monday, March 31 marked the anniversary of the death of beloved Latin singer-songwriter, Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
Selena was murdered on March 31, 1995 by the former president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar. The singer was only 23 years old.
Despite her tragic death, we continue to remember Selena for her vibrant spirit, her amazing talent, and her long list of hits that include "Como La Flor," "I Could Fall in Love," "Dreaming Of You," "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom," and "Amor Prohibido."

- Two weeks after her death, governor at the time George W. Bush declared April 16 as 'Selena Day' in Texas. April 16, 1971 is her date of birth.
- Selena's favorite colors were purple and black.

- Selena was often referred to as the Mexican Madonna. The title was first made famous by American TV journalist, Tom Brokaw.
- Her album, Selena Live! won Best Mexican-American Album at the 36th Grammy Awards.
- Selena married musician Chris Perez on April 2, 1992 in Nueces County, Texas.
- Selena was born in Lake Jackson, Texas and was raised as a Jehovah's Witness.
- In 1994, she opened two 'Selena Etc.' clothing boutiques, one in Corpus Christi and one in San Antonio, Texas.
- According to Hispanic Business Magazine, she earned $5 million from her two clothing boutiques.
- Selena's favorite TV show as a teenager was 'Moonlighting' starring Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepard.
- Selena was named 'Best Selling Latin Artist of the 90s' by Billboard Magazine. She sold 18,000,000 throughout the decade.
