Juan Manuel Marquez Next Fight: 'Dinamita' Eyeing Return on Cinco de Mayo in Mexico
Mexican boxing superstar Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez is eyeing his return on the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Mexico.
Marquez, the 42-year-old veteran fighter, tells ESPN Deportes that he dreams of coming back for a farewell fight in his beloved country, per Boxing Scene.
"I'd love for it to be in May, on [Cinco De Mayo], which is celebrated much in Vegas and why not here in Mexico City. It would be my dream, but I have think about it. It would be two years after my last fight and that would be the end but first I have to put the cards on the table," Marquez adds.
Indeed, it would be full two years in May 2016 since he last came out of a unanimous decision against Mike Alvarado at The Forum on May 17, 2014 in Inglewood, California and earned the World Boxing Organization International welterweight title, BoxRec noted.
Although he yearns to clash with another warrior, he is still not yet fully decided on his return. Still, he knows that he must make up his mind now to fix his schedule for the fight. He once said that he needed to train at least three to four months before coming to a fight fully prepared, a separate article of Boxing Scene noted. This was the reason he canceled his return this fall as he did not have enough time to be ready for the said match.
"We must make a decision now. I thought I was already set on retirement, but then I got an itch to make a fight in our country and to thank the fans for their support, but we must mediate, think, train. I'm training well, and we'll start to see if that emotion [to fight again] is close to the surface [and if I don't feel it] I'll announce my retirement," said "Dinamita."
No more Pacquiao vs. Marquez nor Mayweather vs. Marquez II?
Even though "Dinamita" has not confirmed his comeback fight yet, fans may not be seeing the seasoned Mexican warrior to clash again with either the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. nor his arch enemy, eight-division world champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, per a Fight Hype report.
Marquez believes that a fifth showdown with the famous Filipino fighter will have no bearing at all. For him, he defeated Pacquiao in all their matches, despite only being proclaimed the winner in their fourth match in 2012 when he knocked out his rival.
Marquez described Mayweather as "a fighter who is going to stand and trade punches...he doesn't like to fight."
Who could be "Dinamita's" next foe if he returns?
