‘Transylvania’ Monster Drama Series Coming to The CW
A new wave of monsters are about to invade the airwaves again, but this time they are the classic kind. The CW is reportedly bringing a new series titled "Transylvania" to their network, and it is expected to bring about the old customs that are inherent to the horror genre.
According to Deadline, the series is expected to be an origin story for the classic monsters of literature and pop culture from many years ago.
The series itself will be a period piece, taking place in the year 1880, in the fictional landscape of the titular setting.
The show will about a young lady who is quite independent and headstrong in the world, especially so given that it takes place in the Victorian era. Her father ends up going missing in Transylvania, and she takes it upon herself to go and find him.
She travels from her home in New York City to Europe where she meets up with a man who is a disgraced detective from Scotland Yard. But he is wrongfully disgraced and the two embark on the mission to find her father, or at least die trying. They will seemingly have a common interest in the case, and they find themselves on the same side of the fence in the show.
That is where the horror and drama start to unfold. In the year 1880, that is when some of the most famous monsters in history (at least within the universe of the show) start to emerge from the depths and wreak havoc on the earth.
Although some might assume that this is an origin story of Dracula given the location, that is not quite the case. It seems to be relying heavily upon other monsters of the era for literature. But there will be some notable differences from the classic works, given Mary Shelley wrote "Frankenstein" nearly a century before that era.
There has been no word yet as to when the series will go into production or premiere on the CW network.
