In the coming year, more smartphones are expected to utilize the Force Touch technology that Apple introduced this year on the iPhone 6s. In 2016, one in four smartphones will have a Force Touch screen.

Currently, only the Apple iPhone 6s, the iPhone 6s Plus and the Huawei Mate S have Force Touch technology, Tech Radar reports. However, companies like Samsung and others are expected to adapt the technology for their 2016 phones.

Analysts at IHS say that 24 percent of mid-range and high-end smartphones released in 2016 will have a version of Force Touch technology in their screens. This means phones like the Samsung Galaxy S7 will likely have a screen similar to the iPhone 6s. IHS expects an increase in Force Touch modules by 317 percent in 2016, with 461 million units being shipped.

Force Touch technology could end up being a popular feature, since it allows smartphone users to perform even more functions and gestures with different taps to the screen.

On the iPhone 6s, users can quickly tap on an email to read it without opening it, or quickly tap an app on the home screen to navigate to a specific section or feature of the app.

The Apple Watch introduced Force Touch as well, allowing users to perform different actions based on the amount of force they used to tap on the screen. The company then took the success of Force Touch from the Apple Watch and called it 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s.

HTC is expected to introduce the HTC One M10 sometime in 2016, which could feature Force Touch technology on the new flagship smartphone.

Samsung will be updating the Galaxy S6 to the Galaxy S7 in early 2016. The company wants to remain in direct competition with the iPhone 6s, making Force Touch likely there as well.

Many of the smartphones that will be released in 2016 will be introduced at either CES (the International Consumer Electronics show) 2016 or MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2016, which will provide a better sense of the total number of phones to utilize the new technology.
