The Denver Broncos are in a heap of trouble before. Recently, it was all about getting the right player to man the quarterbacking hole they found themselves in.

With Peyton Manning retiring and Brock Osweiler moving to the Houston Texans, Colin Kaepernick’s name was the one being mentioned to take over. That was until the San Francisco 49ers disgruntled quarterback seemed to be more interested in joining the Cleveland Browns.

Surprise Move

For Anderson, seeing the Broncos match the offer came a bit of a surprise. Aside from the Dolphins, the Chicago Bears were also interested in snagging him from the Broncos, where a larger contract was reportedly on the table.

“If it was about the money, I would have went to Chicago because they actually offered more. It was more about me putting myself in the best situation system-wise,” said Anderson.

Willing to Make it Work in Denver

As far as Anderson is concerned, he knows he can be an asset to any team. He believes that he would have made it work in Miami but also believes that he and Broncos coach Gary Kubiak can work smoothly as well.

The new deal for the 25-year-old running back will see him getting a $5.25 million signing bonus with a base salary of $675,000, both of which are guaranteed.

Digging deeper, $1.7 million of the $2.9 million salary he will be getting in 2017 will be guaranteed. The remaining sums for 2018 and 2019 worth $4.5 million will however not be guaranteed.

The move to retain Anderson was announced by Elway via Twitter.

The deal comes days after the Broncos were able to restructure the contract of DeMarcus Ware which allowed the team to have a ready $11.523 million salary cap before the Anderson deal.

More Work Ahead

The Anderson and Ware deals are just a few things that the Broncos were able to work on and the days ahead should render more developments.

That includes a potential mega deal for Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller plus the fact that they have yet to address the most important hole they have right now, which is the quarterback position. To date, the Broncos have to actively make a pitch at Kaepernick who looks imminently headed to Cleveland.

Unless they move soon, the Broncos will have to look at other options. That includes Ryan Fitzpatrick and Robert Griffin III, who are among the players mentioned alongside Kaepernick.

There are long shot names as well like Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel who could get chances even if the probability of that happening is not that great.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez was recently signed by the Broncos in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles though it does not follow that he will be starting. Rather, Elway explains that Sanchez will have to earn the spot meaning the starting quarterback position has yet to be filled.
