Android 6.0 Marshmallow, also known as Android M, is still crawling out to a lot of new and older OEM flagship Android devices. The latest popular smartphone to finally get an update to Android M is the LG G3.

Android M for LG G3

Both AT&T and T-Mobile have begun to roll out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the LG G3, as Android Authority reported. The Android M update got its first release date for the LG G3 from AT&T, and over the air (OTA) update notifications should be hitting the Korean company's 2014 flagship already.

T-Mobile's Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade should also be rolling out OTA now or in the near future. If you haven't gotten the OTA notification, you can always try to grab the Android M update manually through LG's PC app.

For the AT&T LG G3, the Android Marshmallow upgrade is marked with a build number of MRA58K and software version of D859030k, and the update includes the March 1 security patch.

Update Tips

Whenever updating your firmware, make sure your device has more than 50 percent battery life, and preferably plug the phone into a charger for the duration.

It's also a good idea to download the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade through a solid, unmetered WiFi connection, since the Android M update package can be anywhere between a gigabyte's to as much as two gigs worth of data.

Android M's Most Useful Features

Once you have Marshmallow on your LG G3, you'll be able to enjoy the new features of Android M. They're not flashy, compared to the facelift that came in the form of Android 5.0 Lollipop, but the improvements and features are quite useful.

Android M gives users back the ability to move apps to their MicroSD card to save on internal storage, for example, and helps keep the LG G3 alive by going into "Doze" mode when the phone is idle. The app permissions system also improved in the Android Marshmallow update, giving users individual controls over what functions of the phone they want to allow any given app.
