Talk of a Spanish version of "Breaking Bad" has been going on for quite a while, and the premiere of the show is just around the corner.
"Metástasis" starts in July on Univision's UniMás, and there are already many details about the show available. "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan consulted on the Colombian remake that is very much inspired by the original. Here's a look into the characters and the actors who are bringing them to life.
Walter Blanco:
Diego Trujillo plays Walter Blanco. He was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, which prompted him to change his life as a husband, father and chemistry teacher. He becomes a powerful businessman in the illegal drug trade. He is desperate to keep his business so that he can save money for his family in the future. Jose Miguel Rosas is his business partner and former student, and the two have become high power dealers.
Cielo Blanco:
Sandra Reyes is Cielo Blanco. She is a mother of two who is very worried about Walter's health. She gathers their family to convince him to undergo chemotherapy, but she doesn't trust his strange behavior and thinks he's hiding something from her.
Jose Miguel Rosas:
Roberto Urbina is Jose Miguel Rosas. He teams up with Walter Blanco to set up a mobile methamphetamine lab.
Henry Navarro:
Julian Arango plays Henry Navarro, who is Walter's brother-in-law. He is a member of the drug law enforcement in Colombia. When he finds out there's a new powerful drug manufacturer, he intensifies his investigations, where he appears to be one step behind Walter and Jose.
Walter Blanco Jr.:
Diego Garzon is Walter Blanco Jr., who is Walter's son. On top of all the problems that come with being a teenager, he is also struggling with the imminent death of his father.
Maria Navarro:
Conny Camelo is Maria Navarro, Henry Navarro's wife. She is also Cielo Blanco's sister. She has a tendency to steal, which her sister calls her out on, but she pretends it's not an issue.
A few other interesting details about the series:
- Instead of using "Negro y Azul" by Cuates de Sinaloa, there will be a song called "Vals de Jaisenber."
- Saul will be more than just a lawyer. He'll be the television host of "Cuentele a Saul," where he offers legal advice.
- The Blancos won't have a swimming pool because it's too chilly in Bogota to have one.
- Walter and Jose won't be cooking in a camper; they'll use a bus, instead. Campers aren't common in Latin America.
- Walter teaches in a private school because they are more affordable in Latin America than in the United States.
