Ever since "The Force Awakens" was released, fans have long waited to know of Rey's parentage. Sadly, the movie didn't give out any details.

There were hints to a family that had left her behind but that one burning question - the one concerning Rey's parents, has yet to be answered. According to speculation, the odds say she might be related to one of the major characters in the franchise. Unfortunately, we have to wait until next year for the answers.

During a recent interview with Vulture, Daisy Ridley didn't appear to want to spill the beans on who Rey's family is. In fact, she initially felt that Rey's parentage wasn't important to the story line. Perhaps the building speculation in the run up to Episode 8 will change that. "We will see in a year. Just sit tight on that question" she commented.

She also threw cold water on those wondering if Rogue One's Jyn Erso is Rey's mother. "I think historically it wouldn't work" she said according to The Independent, pointing to the fact that Jyn Erso appears to early in the Star Wars timeline to be a candidate. "She would ultimately be my great-grandma; no, she would be my grandma."

At any rate, speculation will continue until the release of Episode 8 late next year. In the meantime, fans will no doubt continue to try to work out for themselves just who Rey's parents are.

To ensure the speculation and rumors continue unabated, Rogue One, the first spin off from the Star Wars series will be released later this year. Fans are already trying to join the dots between the characters in Rogue One and Rey, but they will have to just wait and see what's revealed in Episode 8.
