'Barbie' Movie News, Spoilers, Updates: Live Action Movie Airs 2018, Amy Schumer Cast As Barbie?
American stand-up comedienne and actress Amy Schumer is reported to have clinched the lead role of Barbie in a movie produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment. The upcoming live action movie is slated to be shown anytime soon in 2018.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is supposed to have forged a partnership with Mattel Toys, the manufacturer of the 57-year old Barbie toy, with an incredibly unrealistic perfect body statistics.
As a matter of fact, a study stated that if Barbie's proportions were strictly followed, a woman would not be able to stand up straight and her liver and intestines would be drastically smaller than normal.
The "Barbie" brand has been criticized for promoting unrealistic female proportions which give the wrong impression to young girls. Because of that, "Barbie" launched a new line of dolls with varying body figures: fat, tall, short, slim and the like.
Amy Schumer's not-so-Barbie mold and her gutsy take on life is just a great way to promote a 21st century Barbie. Sony Pictures Entertainment Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tom Rothman personally approached and presented the movie's script, penned by "Community" producer Hilary Winston, to Schumer who agreed to sign on to the movie, Deadline has learned.
"Barbie" comes opportunely for Mattel Toys in the wake of countless criticisms from female activists that Barbie's perfect proportions have set an unrealistic standard among young women and children for more than half a century.
"Barbie Live" movie is a funny, modern, and politically correct take on the story of a not-so-perfect woman (Amy Schumer) who gets expelled out of the perfect world of Barbieland and lands in the real world. She returns to her homeland but not without realizing that happiness is not based on external beauty but on the goodness you have inside.
