An Oregon man killed his girlfriend and two members of her family after she refused to cook for him and braid his hair.

This was according to Cook County prosecutors, as reported by Chicago Sun Times.

Shonta Harris has brought her child to his father's house on Jun. 22 to celebrate Father's Day.

Harris, 24, told his father's child, John Matthews, that she was not feeling well and was not up to fixing a meal or working on his hair. Matthews responded to Harris by punching her in the face.

He also berated her while following her around the house, a prosecutor said. Matthews' grandmother then took Harris outside the house so she could get away from him.

Prosecutors said Matthews followed both women and destroyed Harris' cellphone. Matthews' grandmother let Harris use her cellphone to call her mother to pick her up and her son.

Harris' mother and sister, Frances and Jasmine Neal, arrived shortly at the house. Harris tried to leave. However, the couple's son was still inside the house, and Matthews refused to let her take their son.

This made Jasmine call 911, according to prosecutors. Jasmine told the dispatcher that Harris' eye was injured due to Matthews' assault.

Harris and her family stood in front of the home. Matthews then pulled out a pistol from his waistband and shot Frances multiple times. He then turned the gun on Harris and shot her in the shoulder.

A female motorist stopped at a red light nearby. She heard the shots and saw Jasmine screaming and running into the street. Matthews was chasing her before he shot her in the side of her head.

Matthews' grandmother called the police and identified him as the shooter during a 911 call. But by the time the officers arrived at the scene, Matthews was already gone.

Frances and Jasmine, 56 and 27, were announced dead at the scene.

Harris also identified Matthews as the shooter in a video-recorded statement from the hospital. She initially survived the attack. However, a bullet that fractured her spine left her lower body paralyzed.

She was then moved to a rehabilitation center, where her condition later worsened. Harris died on Sept. 5.

Matthews was captured on Aug. 3 in Iowa after getting involved in a car crash as a passenger. He was extradited to Cook County and will face murder charges this week.

An assistant public defender said that Matthews has no criminal record and most recently worked for Amazon. Matthews spoke in court on Friday despite the advice of his lawyer.

"Let me just see my family," Matthews said in a Chicago Sun Times report.

Judge Charles Beach ordered Matthews to be held without bail. Beach also denied Matthews' request to see his family. Matthews is expected to attend court proceedings on Nov. 30.

Recently, Oregon Governor Kate Brown has extended the unified police command she imposed in Portland, according to an OPB report. This was in preparation for widespread protests in anticipation of election unrest.
