'The Bachelor' 2014 Update: Are Juan Pablo Galavis and Nikki Ferrell Still Together? Former Bachelorette Trista Sutter Changes View on Venezuelan Star [Video]
An unlikely source has stepped up and defended who is likely the most controversial Bachelor ever, Juan Pablo Galavis.
First ever "The Bachelor" runner-up and first ever star of "The Bachelorette" Trista Sutter sat down with "Access Hollywood Live" on Friday. During the interview, she was asked if she thinks it is right that Galavis is often dubbed the worst Bachelor of all time.
"I don't think that's fair, for sure," Sutter responded.
According to Sutter, she has heard that Galavis is a nice guy through the "The Bachelor" grapevine.
"I think that he's definitely been given a bad rap," the reality star explained. "I know that he's a good guy at heart because of people that I know through the show."
Sutter blamed part of Galavis' bad guy rep on not being from the United States; the former professional soccer player is from Venezuela.
"I think that, personally, a lot of it has to do with the language barrier," Sutter continued. "I think that he would say certain things, and they came across a certain way and he wasn't intending them to be taken the way that they were."
Earlier this year, however, Sutter was less easy on Galavis.
"You shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you, and you should always be grateful and he seems a little ungrateful," Sutter told E! News in March. "When you sign up, you can't fight [the process]. You need to fully give in to the process in order to fully reap the benefits or else don't sign up."
Galavis is reportedly still dating "The Bachelor" winner Nikki Ferrell. Both shared pictures of the other on Instagram on Monday, and two will be on Season 5 of VH1's "Couples Therapy," according to Access Hollywood. The reality show begins in September.
Sutter can be seen with her husband, "The Bachelorette" winner Ryan Sutter, on WeTV's "Marriage Boot Camp" on Fridays at 9/8c.
