Chicago shootings have occurred during the July 4 weekend, with Chicago police reporting over 60 people being shot -15 of them fatally- since Thursday.

WGN9 News reported that one of the homicides occurred on Sunday on the 700 block of North Springfield at 10 a.m. Police noted that a 38-year-old man was sitting outside a building when an unknown person got out of a dark-colored car and fired shots. The victim was shot in the chest and head. Police have not released a detailed description of the person.

Chicago Shootings Victims

A 24-year-old woman was also killed on Friday night during a shootout between two men in the city's Chinatown area. One of the gunmen and two others were wounded during the incident, according to a Fox News report. The woman who was struck in the torso was taken to Stronger Hospital. Police said that she died of her injuries.

Meanwhile, four more people were wounded in West Garfield Park on a Friday night when a man walking down the road opened fire on the group. A 25-year-old man was struck in the back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. The victim was listed in serious condition.

The three other victims were also taken to the hospital but are now in good condition.

A 30-year-old man was also fatally shot in the head on the city's South Side early Saturday. Police said they had no suspects in custody.

Another Mount Sinai Hospital patient was listed in critical condition, a 90-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police reported that they have talked to a person of interest in the case.

A man who is between 25 and 35 years of age was shot multiple times in the head, upper torso, and body, according to police. He was transferred to Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said that he was walking down S. Kedzie Ave. when a dark-colored car drove by, and a person exited the car and shot the victim.

Chicago Police Department Superintendent David Brown said in a press conference that the July 4 weekend would be difficult for the police. Brown called on parents to supervise their children and their safety, saying, "don't leave them to the government to be the parents of your kids."

July 4 Weekend Violence

Two people have been killed and 10 others were injured in a wave of violence over the July 4 weekend in Indianapolis City, as reported by WTHR 13 News.

Among the incidents occurred on Saturday afternoon on the northwest side of Indianapolis. The victim was reported to be in a stable but serious condition.

Mayor Joe Hogsett stood side by side with police and faith leaders to call for a different narrative this year earlier this week.

Leaders have encouraged community activities and other events to keep people busy, have fun, and stay safe. It included activities such as free access to city pools and the Safe Summer Program.
